For the confused, see:
Would have colored it except my computer is rebelling against me(can't wait until I get my back-up laptop back from PA) and I don't want to mess with the desktop, also why it'll be a little longer before I get those drawings mentioned in my last post up. :\
If I don't say it enough, then let me say that Gaiman can write a damn fine story. The thing is this wasn't a Batman story, this was a story about Batman. Better yet this was a story about the Batman you know as a kid. The protector of Gotham, not the paranoid asshole that reading plenty of comics makes him out to be. Yes, it's been done before though this felt different. It was an ice cold glass of water on sweltering hot day, something you've had before though because of the timing it just feels all that much greater.
Not to say it wouldn't be just as great another time but it was certainly something I needed at the moment.
1) It took him 42 issues of Countdown to see that it wasn't as great as he formerly thought. Granted I think this is just because he appears to be a Jimmy Olsen fanboy(though that could be a reason in itself).
2) He thinks Diana/Tom is one of the best things to happen in Wonder Woman so far.
3) For weeks he tried to get anyone who walked through the door to check out Kick Ass. It's worse than it sounds.
4) That whole election series DC ran, 'Indecision', he found it thrilling and fantastic.
5) He positively loved Oracle #1.
And he wonders why I rarely take his advice. :\
Wonder Woman #30- Hells yes! Rather awesome all around though the ending was a tad bland.
Oracle #1- Do not want. Gah. Fail.
JLA #31- Ups and downs, mostly downs. I'm all for a possible Dinah/Ollie split but this is stupid.
Battle for the Cowl-Commissioner Gordon- Oddly awesome. I went into it expecting nothing and it gave me badass Gordon in return. Nice.
Item 1: Batman vs. Darkseid in Final Crisis(spoilers, spoilers, blah, blah, blah)
Item 2: Batman vs. Darkseid in the DCAU.
In conclusion, DCAU >>>>>>>>>> DCU. Thank you and goodnight.
ETA: I claim no responsibility for the possible 'altering' any 'facts' presented in this case.
2) If you are not aware of the amazingness that is Gunnerkrigg, you should read it! NOW! It's fantastic!
Wonderful story, loveable characters, spiffy art. It's a package deal.
3) If you've read it, or just like random icons... ( ICONS! )
4) In conclusion, have a quick on-topic doodle...
((forgive me as reading this I realise how geekishly bad I sound))
Is that 'Oops, I shouldn't have said anything about that?' or 'Oops, they're gonna die soon.' *ponders*
The Walking Dead #56 - She lives! Yet she's understandably emo. Eek! Zombie! Oh snap! I'm betting the one dude kills someone in the next ten issues... I <3 TWD. A
Terra #4 - Cute, cute, cute! Oh gods, don't let bad things come of this as you always seem to DC. A
DCU Holiday Special - Some good stories, some meh. A couple ruined by the writer's need to add a 'twist'. Finally get to see the story Dustin was putting the pages up for, it was okay. Lots of pretty art, some moreso than others. B-
Overal a good week(sure my semi-decent mood added to it), especially since Batgirl is over. Glad I didn't even try to touch it.
Secondly, I randomly realised I never read the last page of the new issue of Wonder Woman. Now that I have, I can honestly say the whole repetition of the word 'children' kind of creeped me out. Though that might just be my personal issues speaking there.
1) Check out my new tote bag.
( Details/Pic cut for the squeamish )
3) The conclusion to the Lil' Leaguers came out today chock full of cute crack though a little sad: http://community.livejournal.com/
from the Ask Greg comment room...
I have bad news from the SLG panel that took place this weekend during San Diego Comic Con:
The comic license will not be re-newed because the price Disney asked for was simply too high.
The current plan is too finish Gargoyles through issue 12 and Bad Guys through issue 6. However, it is unknown at this time how the material will be released. Depending on the availability of the artwork and the timing of the current license's expiration the remaining issues may not get published individually but may be released as a graphic novel. Regardless of how the material is deliever, Greg assured us that they will be completed (as in story, artwork, and color... except for Bad Guys whose artwork will remain black and white) one way or another. So on the bright side at least we will get to see the end of Gargoyles: Clan Building and Bad Guys.
The rest of the details I'll leave for Greg to fill in when he has time.
Well... that sucks. I mean we still have 9, 10, 11, and 12 (and that, plus the 8 issues already out, is more than we've gotten in 10 years) though it still rather sucks. Yet, for the moment, all I have to say, 'wtf? Disney'? From what standpoint does this make sense? They're not using the property and they should know this smaller company can't afford a higher asking price, so why the hell are you going to make it so no one benefits? Then again this is the same company that refuses to release a lot of it's series on DVD despite the profit to be gained from doing so. *le sigh* Well, maybe next time the license gets picked up it will manage a little better schedule or maybe be with a company that will allow it more exposure. *shrug* In truth I think I'll be able to keep from being truly saddened by this until after all the issues/trade get done and given how #9 still isn't out, who knows when that will be.
I frequent two comic book stores, yet I try to make them both feel like they're the only one. The first was my first, and tends to be great for finding something I can't find anywhere else or even just the newest figures out. The latter is my primary store, mainly because it's closer/cheaper/and with less-creepy staff. While I visit the latter weekly, I still try to make an appearance at the first every two weeks or so, just so they don't realise I seem to have moved on(back issues aside).
Once, I stopped by the first and bought an issue of BOP before heading over to the latter. I felt bad when the latter questioned why I wasn't getting BOP from them and gave me a weird look when I said I already had it. It's kind of like having a girlfriend(the latter store), yet still hanging out with your ex(the first store) behind her back. The analogy amuses me.
ACTION COMICS #866
BATMAN CONFIDENTIAL #18 (will Babs strip? I must know!)
BOOSTER GOLD #10
GOTHAM UNDERGROUND #9 (OF 9) (for completeness)
GREEN ARROW BLACK CANARY #9 (aka concentrated crack)
HUNTRESS YEAR ONE #3 (OF 6) (badass so far)
JOKER GREATEST STORIES EVER TOLD TP
TRINITY #2 (issue 1 was okay, hope it continues)
WONDER WOMAN #21 (yay, Gail!)
LOCKE & KEY #5 (trying)
TINY TITANS #5 (awwww...)
Even if it was just Wondy it'd be a good week. The only thing that could make it better really would be Gargoyles #9.
<random rantish thing>... but from what I've seen of it, the whole reunion thing just made me all the more sad over Big Barda's demise. Yes, I will not stop being annoyed over that. Even if she, hopefully, comes back I will still continue to be pissed it happened. I don't give a fuck about Death of the New Gods, the only good thing that came out of it was the figures, which are pretty nice (the evil demons in me really wanted to buy just Mister Miracle and watch the person who was told there was only an incomplete set left cry). She, pretty much, died before and she came back almost immediately. So wtf.
