Review Time! (January 9th, 2008)

Rather light week, which is good with me being relieved of my job as of Friday. I got Teen Titans: Lost Annual, Grimm Fairy Tales: Return to Wonderland #5, Green Arrow and Black Canary #4, and JLA: Classified #50. I've read the first three so here's the reviews...

First up on review is Teen Titans: Lost Annual #1. Can we say 'best Kennedy Assasination story EVER!"? Not to mention completely cracktastic. Telling the story of the 'time the titans fought alongside a brainwashed President Kennedy against aliens' and it was insanely hilarious. My only real qualm was the whole Wonder Girl love story that seemed completely thrown in? I mean look how it happens...

Are you kidding? What the hell was that? Then a few pages further into the story we have her agreeing to marry him so he won't kill himself. Oh Wonder Girl, what the hell is wrong with you.... not that this is the only poorly played Wondy Jr. "love story". What's more it ends with her bawling to Robin about how he already has three wives and wanted her to be the fourth. *shakes head in shame*
That aside, or maybe even including it, the whole thing was completely hilarious and definately worth a read.
3.5/5

Always good for a bloody gorey read Grimm Fairy Tales: Return to Wonderland #5 certainly didn't disapoint. After a brief bit of seeing Johnny hiding the body of the woman he'd killed, we go back to the battle with the Chesire Cat. Enraged by the death of her sister the Queen of Hearts orders her men against the brutish feline, only to incite it against her resulting in the bloody death of her and her men. Now madder than ever Chesire turns to Calie, ready to finish her off. Then comes the coolest part... Lacie slashes her way out of the belly of the Chesire Cat... She's alive! Yay.

With everyone dead the two go off to clean up, then it's revealed to Calie that Lacie is her mother (can we say obvious?). Then things get kind of off. Her mother sends her home, she gets yelled at by her father for being missing for two days, then... at the very end of the issue... Alice/her mother hangs herself. Seemingly added in as an extra is 'Johnny's Blog'. Damn that boy's rather bipolar, I think he might kill his father in the next issue... Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
3/5

When the solicits came out on Green Arrow and Black Canary #4 it seems like Winick might actually have gotten something right? I mean take a look for yourself: http://www.newsarama.com/dcnew/Jan08/previews/1_02.html. Now that's solid good writing. What followed? Not so much.
**UBER SPOILERS!!!****

Now I hope Winick realises what he did here(or rather I hope people in general see through his act). He did kill Connor Hawke. Brain-dead=might as well be dead=no recovery. Sadly I can see him using this as a way to do a story on euthanasia and coma patients. If so then I be more pissed than I can even begin to say. I mean come on, Winick is a fake. He uses characters in big storylines to press his own agenda, or whatever agenda he thinks will get him recognition. Can we say 'Terry being the victim of gay bashing'? Can we say 'Mia having HIV'? Bringing Jason Todd back as an evil vindictive asshole? What the fuck. Between him and Didio it's like DC's own 'We hate the fans' club.

Though I will say one good thing about Green Arrow and Black Canary...

The art is too damn gorgeous for Winick's fuckery.

Oh and one last bitch before I go...

Words cannot express my annoyance.
