Venture Brothers

1) I got my Dr. Girlfriend shirt in the mail today.

2) The newest episode was made of win.

First of all, if you've only watched it on television(okay, so as of posting this that isn't possible) then watch the un-cut opening.

Seen it? Good.
Just love the whole 'simulated' storming of the Venture compound. I mean it isn't just that the Monarch has such a simulator, but that he also has it were it's detailed enough to act (almost) exactly like the actual group would is fantastic. I mean Hank and Dean discussing the names of various cuts with knives at their throats? Priceless.

Moppet(Kevin): Oh! So now you want to taste knife too!
Dean: Can't taste knife through my neck.
Hank: Then you should give him a Brazilian smile!
Moppet #2(Tim-Tom): What's that?
Hank: You just cut the mouth ear to ear!
Tim-Tom: Oooh, I like that.
Monarch: Okay. This is why I'm anti-moppet. Right here.

Though it did become pretty obvious it wasn't real the moment Monarch took out Brock. The mere thought of him managing that with such bravo is laughable. Albeit... how often has the Monarch come face to face with him? 21 and 24 maybe. Both have a healthy respect of Brock's skill in killing bad guys in a completely vicious and badass fashion. Though I do have to think, especially with Dr. Girlfriend in the room, Monarch might be capable of anything(at least in reference to the 'bravo', he's still not going to kill Brock in anything short of an insane accident).

Loved the moment that stopped the simulation.

Yes, we all know everyone who's a regular part of team Monarch has a crush on Dr. Girlfriend, including the creepiness that is the moppets. Yet for 21 do cause the simulation to do that... lmao. Bold.

Though I do love the classic 'Monarch hugs Dr. G and shakes his fist menacingly while condeming Dr. Venture' moment that follows.

Those two are definately one of my rare straight OTPs. There's just something about her walking up and embracing him while he begins his tirde that almost always ends in a shot similar to this that brings a smile to my face.

Moving along...
We find the Ventures at home with Brock freaking out as he finishes off his car, as we'd left off with it trying to kill him in the last episode. Once he's finished with that he goes into action mode. While he knows that the OSI is after him and him alone he automatically moves to protect the family which makes for a nice theme to the episode in which, while he could easily leave them behind since his job with them is over via his termination from the OSI, he continues to protect them despite how they continue to unnerve him and often act as more trouble than they're worth.

Another thing I liked was the moment with H.E.L.P.E.R. "He often speaks of the coming war between man and the brotherhood of machines." followed by him hugging Brock. It just makes it so much sadder later when he's stuck as the front wheel for the jet, broken and alone.

Awwwwwww.

The only low point of the episode I can really find would be Molotov Cocktease's scene. Sure, she gives us the information about the three assassins being sent after Brock, though it could have just as easily been found out another way and we don't even see them part ways afterward. Overal, while I do like how she flips Brock, it was lacking and bland compared to all her other appearances throughout the show's past.

Luckily this was balanced out by the Monarch's approach and the three assassin's responses to 'how long are you staying for?' On the first...

I'll never get sick of how, despite being a group of villains, they're more like a cozy little family only somewhat less disfunctional than the Ventures. Monarch is the grumpy father who, while getting annoyed at 21 and 24's nonsense, still seems to see past the worse of it. Dr. Girlfriend is the sensible mother who's also the brains of the outfit, keeping everyone in line and things together (although it becomes more apparent over time she really doesn't care for the Monarch's 'top men', the main source of almost-arguments now that they're legit in the 'arching Venture' department). 21 and 24 are the two teens who will never grow up. And the moppets... Ummmm... the creepy as fuck 'babies'.

So, while the Monarchs head toward the compound, Cocktease introduces us to each of the assassins who all have thier own 'quirks'. Out of them I'd think #1 is uber creepy, #2's death was made of win, and #3 was fantastic if you're a comic book fan. With the intros out of the way we move into the their attempts to kill Brock.

First up...

After Molotov leaves Brock finishes packing up and heads out to visit Gathers. Gods, how I love whenever Brock goes to visit him. Why? Two words. 'Extreme discomfort' Since Gathers is at work whenever Brock sees him, and he's also now a 'female' stripper, they have to keep up the appearance of 'client' and 'entertainer'. Resulting in some very interesting situations.

Gathers: I'm trying to break the ice here!

Gathers: Tip me!

Gathers: Quick! Feel my tits!

Lulz.

While he does that the Monarchs make it to the compound and begin their 'storming' of it. Once, after spending entirely too much time on the security fence, they figure out the front door's unlocked they decide to split up leading to a lovely moment of misunderstanding over the term 'subdue'.

Monarch: Okay, review. Moppets?
Tim-Tom: We locate the Venture boys.
Kevin: Kill them.
Monarch: Subdue them.
Tim-Tom: Cut their bellies?
Monarch: Subdue their bellies. Dr. my wife?
Dr. Girlfriend: Locate and seduce...
Monarch: Subdue! Come on!
Dr. Girlfriend: Subdue... Brock Samson.
Monarch: 24?
24: Locate and subdue the Venture robot.
Monarch: Subdue? You can kill the robot, it's a robot...
Damn I love the Monarchs.

Everyone's role clarified they split up and get to work while the Ventures, i.e. Brock, deal with Herr Trigger a man who gets off, literally, on killing. He licks the barrel of his gun after each shot and gets all twitchy thinking about firing something off. At one point he pulls out a rocket launcher, shoots it, and then holds it for a moment between his legs, rubbing it vigorously on both sides. Though since the episode has three assassins to get through his actual demise is rather 'subdued' with him being flattened by the escape pod of the Venture jet after he'd shot it down.
Assassin rating #1: 6/10

Again it cuts back to the Monarch's raid as Tim-Tom and Kevin cut open the boy's sleeping pods. It's kind of weird how Kevin's voice breaks a little when he comes out of the pod holding the cut-up giraffe stuffed animal asking 'what would a teenager be doing with a stuffed animal?!' Luckily Tim-Tom makes up for it, reminding us of their inate creepiness with 'I know what I did with them', leading to Kevin freaking out over having touched it. Lmao.

Cutting to Brock's room, Dr. Girlfriend sits poised on his bed fretting occationally over her appearance and trying out diffferent poses.

Oh Dr. Mrs. The Monarch. Mmmm...
Eventually they seem to realise the Ventures aren't home, but there does seem to be someone who isn't with them or the Ventures in the master bedroom's bathroom.

Though before we find out who that is we have assassin #2...

Having disposed of assassin #1 and without the Venture jet, Brock takes the Ventures to see one of his old OSI buddies who was booted on the 'don't ask, don't tell' issue. Can you see were that is heading?

Meet Sky Pilot and Holy Diver. They're 'former' homosexuals and 'partners' in a youth ministry. Together they make a Christian hero team called 'Soul Mates'... yeah.

Anywho, being near water, it's not long before we meet the nautical assassin Go-Fish who uses a mechanical frog to wrap a wire around Brock and drag him out to sea. Determined to help, Sky Pilot and Holy Diver rush to suit up Holy Diver in an outfit made of various 'holy' items in what must be the longest 'suit up' sequence ever during which Go-Fish begins to coat Brock in bait attracting some sharks. Eventually they finish and move to the deck, only to kneel down and pray for help. *facepalm*

Luckily this is the motherfucking Brock Samson we're talking about. After the sharks tear through the wires trapping him he sinks below the surface wrestling them. Moments later what appears to be his body floats to the surface surrounded in blood. Go-Fish cheers and begins to charge his boat towards it, seemingly to land the final blow. The drawback? That isn't Brock. Brock is sitting off to the side on a boey, his head shaved and stripped to his underpants. So, what is Go-Fish charging towards?

Hells yeah.
He realises his mistake just in time to get his head chopped off in the sharks mouth. See? Told you his death was fucking awesome.
Assassin Rating #2: 8/10

With the second assassin out of the way it jumps back to the Venture compound were we find it was Sgt. Hatred in the bathroom. Apparently he didn't get the message from the Guild that the Monarchs would be taking over arching the Ventures(as it should be) and is also lamenting over the belief his girlfriend is going to leave him. With this Dr. Girlfriend steps in to play her 'problem solver' role.

Which leads to a little moment that is just fantastic. First of all, notice how both of them are 100% at ease hanging out and chatting this over with him sitting on the toilet, his pants around his ankles(there's even a few shots were there's a censorship star between his legs) while Monarch and the henchmen are left outside. Something about that amuses me to no end. Secondly, his cellphone. Not just the size of it, or the commentary ("this is a big phone." "I'm a big boy!"), but that it actually has a screen displaying the txt message from his girlfriend makes it positively grand. Then there's the little 'moment' which always comes with Dr. Girlfriend. The obligatory joke over her voice(since she is voiced by a man),

Dr. Girlfriend: How do you even know that's what she wants to talk about?
Sgt. Hatred: Your a woman, I mean you are a woman... right?
Dr. Girlfriend: *looks annoyed* I'm going to ignore that.

Honestly. I love Dr. Girlfriend's voice. While at first it's a little weird hearing this deep gravely voice coming out of this curvy image of smex, nearing the latter half of the third season it becomes unanimous with that appeal to the point that nothing else would work. If the next episode featured her having a female voice actor it would seem weird and horrific, a forgien concept that non-fans would take as a given never mind the loss of all those jokes. "Do you smoke cigarrettes or eat them?" "I'm not doing a theme on my voice!" "Is she a... you know..."

Anywho, eventually it's determined that Sgt. Hatred is super emo depressed, especially following Dr. G's confirmation that 'I just want to talk' is code for 'I'm going to dump you', and won't leave until Doc Venture comes home and kills him. Having found that Venture took the jet and likely wouldn't be back for sometime anyway, Monarch decides to take 21 and 24 home to get the Cocoon, earning a 'I told you so' from Dr. Girlfriend who wanted to bring it to begin with. Lol.

And this brings us back to Brock, the Ventures, and assassin #3...

The rich assassin/silver-age comic book collector, who finds the group via the Batfan,

Hank: I'm in love... with that towel!

With Rusty in the bath, Brock out getting supplies, and Dean watching television Hank runs into Le Tueur leading to them both sharing in their love of Batman. Apparently both like to pretend to be the dark knight in their spare time. Though before we find out more Brock shows up sending Le Tueur scrambling to get dressed. This is were we find out more of his 'silver-age comic' love...

**break: will finish once I get some work done**
