So I just started reading the Runaways, making it my offical first Marvels title. *le gasp* In honor of this here's an evaluation, and I use the term loosely, of sorts of my OTP of the series Karolina Dean and Nico Minoru.
Being the lesbian character of the series (glowing rainbow space alien lesbian at that) Karolina starts in the very first issue showing interests toward Nico, however small...
First there's the enthusiasm and compliments, love how she ignores Chase and darts right over to her.
Later she, a couple of times, allows her interests in Nico to make her decisions for her...
Skipping ahead a bit one of the team betrays them/their parents are 'destroyed'/the team gets split up and thrown into foster care. Yet they don't remain separated for long...
Awww... Look how they hold hands and look at one another.
Eventually Karolina gets up the courage to attempt to kiss Nico though Nico backs out(still looking for scans). Next thing you know Karolina's whisked off to space by some Super-Skrull prince to be married. Before she leaves though she's tells Xivan, skrull, that she's gay though Xivan reveals that skrulls can change gender(doing so) putting Karolina a bit more at ease. So Nico and Karolina part ways, Karolina leaving her bracelet which keep her alien nature a secret in Nico's care.
While she's gone...
Nico goes a bit crazy, trying to cast a spell to bring her back along with...
She's alone in a room surrounded by Karolina's clothing, kind of creepyish but considering the owner is off the planet and probably wouldn't mind, it works and shows that Nico clearly misses Karolina to a rather great extent that could reach beyond friendship.
As for Karolina...
She's finding she misses Earth, and possibly a certain someone on it.
Luckily the wedding ends up falling through and Karolina returns to Earth.
1...2...3... AWWWWWWW!
Unfortunately this is where things get even more akward as Karolina brought along her fiance.
But Nico kept the braclet. ^.^ Unfortunately Xivan takes it, saying there's no need for it anymore. Grrrr...
Now Xivan I have mixed feelings for. On one hand he/she honestly seems to like Karolina and that's great BUT he/she also seems to have quite a few issues. First off all he/she is rather hard-headed and seems to rush into things, but then again Nico can be the same at times. More importantly is Xivan's gender confusion. (will post scans if wanted, trying to keep this resonably sized) Basically Xivan perfers to appear male and only becomes female when it's clear that being male is bothering Karolina or when doing the couple thing with Karolina. Something tells me this may become an issue in the future. Karolina may be open hearted and kind though if Xivan ever decided to drop the whole becoming female for her thing I really don't think things with them would continue (1. because she's gay and 2) because I think she's only with Xivan because she can't be with Nico).
Speaking of reason 2 though even Xivan knows of Karolina's attraction to Nico, going so far as to... well let's turn to the scans again...
So we see that Karolina isn't the type to cheat, even if it where her dream girl though we also see one of the best Karolina/Xivan scenes involves Nico. ;p
Oh and you so can't say this scene
Doesn't speak volumes about the two. I mean at this point it seems that Nico's kissed just about everyone but Karolina so why not?
