I only got JLA and Detective Comics today and read them in that order. As I thought, following last month's issue, JLA left a bad taste in my mouth. It was just... annoyingly bad. I'm not sure if I feel that way because of the team breaking up or the actually story but I just didn't like it. Then I read Detective Comics.
If I don't say it enough, then let me say that Gaiman can write a damn fine story. The thing is this wasn't a Batman story, this was a story about Batman. Better yet this was a story about the Batman you know as a kid. The protector of Gotham, not the paranoid asshole that reading plenty of comics makes him out to be. Yes, it's been done before though this felt different. It was an ice cold glass of water on sweltering hot day, something you've had before though because of the timing it just feels all that much greater.
Not to say it wouldn't be just as great another time but it was certainly something I needed at the moment.
