Was going to dive into this week's stuff after the Gargoyles review though my desire to talk 'Uncle Sam & The Freedom Fighters' conflicted enough to make me keep my word...

Uncle Sam & The Freedom Fighters. I got it because, though I never read the older publication of it and only knew of it's existence, forgive me, from the Alex Ross art book, it seemed interesting. I mean it's Uncle Sam for cripes sake! What more do you need than that? I mean they even poked fun at the old campaign posters with U.S. declaring 'My recruitment poster days are behind me.' How great is that?! Yet I admit it took me a more than one try to actually get into reading it but I certainly don't regret it now.

I was surprised that the focus of this story was more on Red Bee than anything. Surprised but not disappointed. She's a good character. Interesting in her love and knowledge of the insect realm that it seemed damn obvious she was going to save them from the evil space bees despite being captured first. I love how she did it too, declaring herself a queen, the others her workers, and our solar system her domain. It was rather clever, ingenius really.

Then came the changes. A mutation of sorts from the bees resulting in her name now suiting her better than ever before, along with insect based powers. It was great when she started walking around the room at the JSA headquarters marking people. Human Bomb's semi-outraged 'She...she marked me.' was priceless.

Though stepping back from Red Bee I do like how they tied in the Amazon's Attack! with the White House being demolished and whatnot. Not to say I will ever approve of what was done with Amazon's Attack! and would have prefered it never existed to act as something to tie into this... but seeing as this is not the case, it was well done. *knods* Now back to Red Bee...

It was interesting to see who took what side in the decision to join Robbins & the NSA. It was pretty clear to see that RB would, she's humble and polite, I couldn't see her turning down this 'opportunity' especially after the attention she gains from it. Though true to the code of comics you put a second stringer in the spotlight and all hell is sure to break loose, so it's no surprise to see that Red Bee's new look/abilities come with some unwanted side affects resulting in the issue ending on a bad cliffhanger. Bad in the way that good cliffhangers are done, i.e. you wanna know what happens next. And I do... *adds to pull-list*

Let's see... I guess I'll also go over Detective Comics #837, Action Comics #856, & JLA: Hitman #2, in that order.

As a, or rather inspite of, being a Countdown tie-in I was fairly pleased with Detective Comics #837. How can you be dislike a Harley Quinn centric story? That's right, not happening. Throw in a few jokes at the Riddl...err Nigma's expense and you have gold. Not to mention I actually like what Countdown's doing with Harley. Not only is she Joker-free but she's gone Amazon, how cool is that? I mean 'Yay!'. She was so great when she kicked Nigma out of the Athenian Woman's Center, though she did noticably sink into her submissive role when under the stern eye of Athena.

The Secret Six falling out story was cute. Though it's clear that most the group blamed Quinn for the screw up, it was CLEARLY Ragdoll's fault. I mean Harley so claimed( and so owns) that look. ^.^
sidenote:aside from the oddity that was Knockout's anatomy the flashback really made me like the art here.

Hmmm... the rest of the story was okay. It was weird to see someone working on the bars in a dress and with my former history with gymnastics(along with being a rather decently endowed female myself) all I gotta say is I hope that dress has a built-in bra or something cause that type of movement with those boobs = serious pain. Liked the fighting between the one drug-induced strength girl and Harley, though was dissapointed by Holly's lack of aid. I mean she said so herself that's she'd pretty decent for someone who was nothing but the shadow of Catwoman yet here she is getting her ass handed to her and hanging in the sidelines adding helpful tidbits like 'Hey!' and 'Let her go!'. No wonder Harley calls her the sidekick.

Though in the end it was the wimp Nigma who saved the day, not that he would have won if not for the element of surprise, and all went well... okay except for the 'da da dummmm' ending before Batman's little chat about the reformed Riddler. Nice tie-in...

My goddess I enjoyed this Action Comics. I loved the art, how well it suited the Bizarro World. The story was well done, giving insight to a character too often dismissed as an idiotic oaf. You can actually feel sorry for him when his own world turns on him (gotta love Bizarro Luthor and his planning). The last page completely cracked me up though. I was laughing for a couple minutes straight at the appearance of the Bizarro world JLA. It's like scary bad cosplay or something. lmao. Yeah not much of a review but it truly was really good so.. GO! Read it. ^.^

Another good read was JLA: Hitman #2. I can't say quite what I like most about it but it was great. Dislike how Wondy's portrayed here though. The art style makes like look kinda like Isis and the writing for her is alittle corny with the whole throwing herself off the ladder and a shout along the lines of 'save yourself' & 'you can do it!' to Tommy.

Backing up, damn. That sucks. Your a superhero but your powers fail, your invaded by the alien slugs(ignore me as I refuse to call them by their proper name), and the one legit guy in the group who's used to no powers is the first to get brain sucked. As though that wasn't bad enough you find yourself holed up under the AquaTank, though it isn't too awful as you still have the Amazon to fight. Wrong... she gets brain slugged too. Who does that leave? Tommy? Your kidding me right? Poor JLA.

So Tommy goes on and there's the 'Oh Shit!' moment when he comes face to face with the slugged Supes. Lucky for him Superman did the impossible thing and killed the slug, seriously messing himself up in the process, so unluckily it's still up to Tommy to save the day. So he did the only thing he knew how... he killed the slugs(NASA hosts and all). Of course this caused alot of strain with the JLA and their strict no-killing policy(not that any of them would never kill in the future*sarcasm*).

Fortunately for Tommy it was ordered that due to the White House almost nuking them in an attempt to kill the slugs it was declared the mission never happened so he couldn't be charged with the NASA deaths. Unfortunately for Tommy they still had him on several hundred other deaths and handed him over to the Gotham police upon return to Earth. Fortunately for Tommy he has/had connections with the GCPD and the cops did nothing more than give him a lift to the bar. Go fig. *grin*

Tommy the idiot you love to hate.

Well that's all for now, next post will be up to date with this weeks non-Gargoyles reviews(seeing as I already did that)
